Many insurance companies offer $100 Windshield/Glass Coverage. This may not sound like a good deal as most windshields cost much more than $100 and you want to be protected in the event of a loss. This coverage can be very benefitial to have if you understand what protection it provides.
The $100 Windshield/Glass Coverage, when purchased, reduces your comprehensive deductible in the event of a loss involving glass only. So if you have a $1,000 comprehensive deductible on your RV and a rock damages your windshield, $100 Windshield/Glass Coverage would only require that you pay $100 towards your deductible instead of the full $1,000. It's a nice coverage feature to have and is usually inexpensive to buy. Check out this and more RV Insurance options at www.blueskyrvinsurance.com!

Gap Coverage
Recreational Vehicles are subject to depreciation and it may take several years before the amount you owe is less than the value of the RV. This can provide an added exposure for a newly purchased unit - where your vehicle is totalled and yet you still owe money to the bank for an RV you never own. Specialty RV insurance provides the Gap Coverage you need in the form of Total Loss Replacement, Purchase Price Guarantee, and Agreed Value Coverage. Talk to your specialty RV agent about which coverage best meets your needs.

Protection While On Consignment
A popular way to sell your RV is to put it on consignment with a local RV dealership. The RV dealership will then sell the unit in return for a fee. This may be a great way to sell your current RV, but it also creates a gap in insurance for many RV policyholders. Insurance policies typically exclude coverage while on consignment and the dealership has no insurable interest in the RV and therefore cannot insure the vehicle on their policy.
Make sure you have insurance coverage when your RV is on consignment! Find a company that will allow you to buy consignment coverage for your RV. The Blue Sky RV Insurance product offers consignment RV insurance that removes the standard consignment exclusion in the policy.

RV in Storage? Be Careful!
Many RVers do not use their unit year-round. Some will put it in storage for the winter or for an extended period of time. It only makes sense that you should get a break on your insurance while your RV is in storage. Hoowever, there are still exposures that can do harm to your RV while it's not being used.
Be careful of insurance companies that offer to "suspend" coverage while your RV is in storage! Collision losses may still occur if your vehicle rolls down a hill and strikes an object or if another car hits your vehicle. States usually require liability coverage on all registered units, even if it's in storage and you don't want to have to turn in your plates just to suspend insurance coverage. Instead of eliminating coverage and increasing your exposure unnecessarily, talk to your specialty RV insurance agent about ways you can sve money while the RV is in stoarge. Simple measures such as raising deductibles and lowering liability limits will give you the savings you deserve while still providing the protection you need.

Don't Be Afraid to Share
A question that is commonly asked when obtaining an RV insurance quote is, "How much are you currently paying?" The first instinct many have is to not share this information, thinking the insurance company is looking to get as much out of you as they can. However, insurance rates are not the same as the price at the gas pump - they do not change every hour. States regulate the cost of RV insurance and each state typically has to approve the rates for each company long before you ever request a quote.
So don't be afraid to share your current cost of insurance with your agent. Chances are, sharing this information will give the agent ideas on how to best save you money without giving up too much coverage.

Show Me the Money
Insuring your motorhome or travel trailer isn't just about getting the proper protection. It's about protecting your investment at a reasonable cost. While shopping around for a good rate is one option, there are other ways to save money on your RV insurance.
Many specialty RV insurance programs provide discounts that the bigger insurance companies don't have. For example, if you belong to an RV association or a manufacturer's club, you may qualify for a discount on your RV insurance. Demonstrate experience by letting your agent know how many years of driving experience you have and also tell them if you have a commercial driver's license (CDL). There are also driving safety courses specifically designed for RVers that can help you save on your insurance. Be sure to ask your specialty RV insurance agent how you can take advantages of these discounts.

Know the Value of Your RV
Using the right value of your motorhome or travel trailer is critical when obtaining an RV insurance quote. When shopping for insurance, be sure to know the original purchase price (including sales tax) as well as the current value of the unit (known as Actual Cash Value or ACV). You will probably be asked this question as your agent helps you choose the right policy and it's good to be prepared.

Honesty Is the Best Policy
Insurance coverage for your RV is meant to reflect your travel plans and support you according to those plans. For example, if you use your motorhome more than 5 months out of the year, your insurance coverage must be tailored to provide the proper insurance protection for this increased exposure. Likewise, if you sell items out of your RV or have any other commercial use, you wouldn't want to have a claim excluded because you did not share this information with your agent.
So, whether you are planning to take a trip across the state, use your RV for commercial purposes, or go on a few weekend trips each year, be honest with your specialty RV insurance agent. Many insurance policies contain exclusions for certain activities and you won't want to be surprised by these provisions at the time of a claim. For best results, talk to a specialty RV insurance agent to talk through your specific needs.

In RV Insurance, Large Doesn't Mean In Charge
Many insurance companies offer an array of services and products, but if RV insurance is not a primary focus, you may not be getting the best possible coverage for your specific needs. Often times, RV insurance is not the primary focus of these big insurance companies. Just because a company is large does not make them specialists in handling your home on wheels. Try looking into a company that specializes in RV insurance. The Blue Sky RV Insurance program provides the level of service and the proper amount of protection you need in the event of a loss.
